I grew up in Virginia, in a small town whose stories have more historical significance than most. The town and its incredible architecture and people served as a rich backdrop to my childhood and cemented my fascination with place and with storytelling.

My father was a carpenter specializing in historic restoration, and my mother studied interior design. My childhood homes were impeccably designed and built (or restored) with loving care and respect for their era. They were also usually a little bit unfinished, because doing it the right way takes time.
